How to Make a Dagger in Photoshop

Today I will be teaching you how to make a dagger in Photoshop. This lesson can be done in Photoshop version 6.0 and above. The first step it so create a new document in Photoshop. Let’s make it 500 by 400 pixels. Then we have to switch to RGB mode. To switch to RGB mode click on image then mode and click RGB mode. Once you are in RGB mode you can see color in your project. Now we can create the blade of our dagger. Select the shape tool from your toolbar and click on custom shape tool. You will see a new menu bar appear at the top of the screen. Click on this new menu bar and click where it says shape. When you click shape you will see a drop down arrow, click it and load all customs shapes. Next select the solid triangle shape. Now click and drag and make a long pointy blade. If you want to see how the blade should look you can look at the example included with this lesson. Once you have created the blade shape we need to make it look realistic. Click on layer then layer style and choose gradient overlay. Then click on the tiny drop down arrow and click on the tiny arrow. Once you have clicked the tiny arrow click load gradients and select metals. Now you will notice that you will have the metal gradients to choose from. Click and select the silver gradient. This will make your blade look shiny. Next click on bevel and emboss on the same screen. Set the bevel to inner bevel and the technique to smooth. After that make the depth 171% and the direction up. Next make the size 5 px and set the soften to 0 px. Once you have done all this click ok.

The next step in creating our dagger is to create the handle of the dagger. First create a new
layer and select the rectangle shape from the shape tool. Next click and drag acr
oss to make the side of the handle. Now click back on the layer where we created the blade. Once you are on that layer click copy layer style. Next click back on the layer were we created the handle and click paste layer style. You will notice you handle now has the same effects that your blade had. This is a great technique to use because it saves
you a lot of time. The last and final step is to make the bottom part of the handle. So we must create a new layer and select the rectangle tool. Next click and drag down to create the handle. Once you have done this you can copy the layer style from the blade again and apply it to the handle. For an added effect you can add a black background behind the dagger to make it stand out. If you want to see what your dagger will look like, look at the image in included with this lesson. Have a great day and I hope you enjoyed this lesson.
